Simple, Compound, Complex????

A simple sentence has two parts - a subject and a predicate, which contains the verb.

A compound sentence consists of two simple sentences joined by a coordinate conjunction  -- and, but, so, yet, or

A complex sentence is made up of an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses.  The dependent clause sometimes begins with one of the following key words:  though, although, after, as, before, because, since, then, once, until, unless, where, wherever, when, whenever, while

Using what we have learned about simple, compound, and complex sentences you need to write one sentence of each type and label what each sentence is:

Example:

Simple:  Kristi ran a 5K race this weekend.

Compound:  Kristi ran a 5K race this weekend, and she won 1st place.

Complex:  Because the world is so large, Kristi cannot get an exact population count.

This is an assignment and will be graded.  It is worth 30 points.

Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominee

I felt very honored to be nominated for the 2012 Kansas Teacher of the Year.  I attended a banquet with Ms. McDaniel and Ms. Hufford.  I received an award from Dr. Diane DeBacker and Dale Dennis.  I was also given a watch to celebrate my success.  I feel very fortunate to work in a district that has supported myself and the students.  Thanks again.

Learning About Me!!

For English my students created an interactive Bulletin Board that told all about themselves.  Students used their own photos and well as providing information about themselves that others may or may not know.  Please take the time to look at each student's Stixy.  We used www.stixy.com to create.
